Apostle Jessie Simmons

Apostle Jessie Simmons after much prayer and fasting gave birth to the vison God gave her about starting a church. God told her to build Him a house where He could come and dwell. God also told her that the church would not be patterned after anything she had seen in Greenwood and that He would give her the blue print she needed to build His church. She started what was known as The Upper Room Church of God in 1990 in the city of Greenwood S.C. God told her to add "of God" to the name of the church because it would come days when she would need to know that the church was of Him.

In 1992 Apostle Jessie met and married Apostle Kevin Simmons. God miraculously sent her one who would come alongside her and aide her in the call to impact the city and the region. Together God has used them to impact many lives as they continue to teach and inspire others to reach their full potential in Christ through the knowledge of God's word.

God elevated the Man and Woman of God to their current offices of Apostle under the Leadership of their spiritual Parents Apostle Alva and Alvin Green out of Columbia S.C. Apostle Alva and Apostle Alvin has been a spiritual Mother and Father to the Simmons throughout the development of their ministry.

Through the witness of the Holy Spirit and prophecy, God lead Apostle Jessie and Apostle Kevin to change the name of the church to The Prevailing Church.( "Upon this rock I will build My Church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it" Matt. 16:18). The Simmons believe that the assignment on this generation is to usher in a revival and the greatest reformation ever experienced on the earth before. There must be a people who are empowered to stand and having done all stand to see the Kingdom of God come on the earth as it is in Heaven.

As the church grew God always provided place to hold services. We are presently housed in a building on 1008 Florida Avenue where God doing one Sunday morning service supernaturally paid the mortgage off.
